In making these arrangements, Allyson wrote me to treat her as my friend in Guayaquil. In fact, she was like a best friend. The tour was amazing. She made everything run smoothly and led our family on a terrific tour of the Cocoa farm. We made our own chocolate and had a delicious farm to table lunch while the chocolate was cooling. We loved the city tour which she adjusted per our request as it was a long day - our first in the country. She is a lovely woman and has perfect English. She is extremely knowledgeable about her city and country. She went above and beyond by helping us arrange airport transfers both leaving Guayaquil and on our return. I do feel as if I have a friend in Guayaquil and would recommend her to anyone looking for the perfect guide while visiting.

This was a great day! I was the only one on the tour and my guide Alison, and her friend Mikela, did a superb job. For the dry forest we visited the Cerro Blanco private reserve where Alison had engaged a wonderful local guide who's knowledge of all things was exceptional. Later a visit to various parts of Guayaquil gave me a good incite into this city's "vibe". A truly enjoyable day with two charming and knowledgeable young ladies. Highly recommended!

Excellent City Tour

We were visiting Guayaquil and used Allyson to provide us with a city walking tour. Allyson has a passion for her city as demonstrated by her professional approach to the tour. We learned so much about Guayaquil from its history of independence to its city development as well as the Ecuadorian culture. Allyson guided us to all the interesting points in the city as well as tempted us with local foods along the way. There was no better way to understand Guayaquil and enjoy the culture than a city tour with Allyson.

We had a very short time in Guayaquil but Allyson did a great job of showing us her city. We visited the cathedral, which rivaled many I've seen in Europe, iguanas in the city park, a stroll through the city, a stop for some local juice drinks, a visit to a chocolate factory, a stroll along theMalacon 2000, and finally a visit to the Musuem of ancient artifacts. Our time in the city could not have been better spent. Allyson was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and informative about the history of Ecuador and Guayaquil. Highly recommend!

Allyson Aleman was the perfect guide for us. We were two people who booked this tour months prior to landing in Ecuador. Allyson kept in contact with us periodically and then the day before the tour confirmed all arrangements. She is a very pleasant person and very knowledgeable about this chocolate making tour - plants, process, products. It was hands on and loads of fun besides being educational. I’d recommend her to anyone.

Delicious Chocolate Farm Tour

Our tour with Allyson was the perfect introduction to Guayaquil and to Ecuadorian food. Our five hour tour was the perfect mix of culture, history and gastronomic adventures. The highlight was the mercado where we were educated about so many of the foods of Ecuador, got to enjoy the most amazing encebollado and ceviche, and even got a selfie with the mayor, Aquiles Álvarez.

We had been warned to 'be careful' in Guayaquil, but we felt 100% safe exploring the city streets and the local culture with Allyson, The tastes, the smells, the sounds and the energy of her city is infectious.

We recommend Allyson highly. We would definitely call her again if we are ever back in Guayaquil.

Awesome Guayaquil experience with Lilian Cedeño

Lilian was an awesome guide. She arrived on time, stayed long enough to cover everything we wanted to do and did not rush us. She walked with us to all the places on our list and had the cards for the Aerovia cable car to make it easy to purchase the tickets. She told us about which places were safe and kept us away from places that were not safe. She even took us to a great souvenir shop and helped us with the shopping. She went out of the way to recommend vegan restaurants we should try! She also told us of a safe walking route to go see the giant monkey statue (Estatua Del Mono Machín) within walking distance of the hotel but in the median of the Juan Javier Marcos y Aguirre road on the way to the airport. Every attraction on our list was a hit and worthy of the visit - the 444 steps through Las Penas neighborhood to El Faro, the lighthouse, the cable car ride from Malecon to Duran and back to Cathedral, the nearby Cathedral, the Iguana park on the way to the Municipal building and the plaza in front, the Art University all opposite the Malecon, the semicircle Rotonda monument and the 2 things we did on our own - the walk to the giant monkey statue (Estatua Del Mono Machín) and the evening walk along the Malecon near our Wyndham Santa Ana hotel. Remember to wear full sleeves and long pants to stay safe from the bugs near the river eager for human blood as you walk the Malecon in the evening or sit out to eat an eatery off Malecon.

We have been on a number of Tours by Locals outings. Before going into specifics, we’ll start by saying that the tour we had with Allyson Aleman on Guayaquil, Ecuador was easily the most enjoyable, informative, and rewarding tour we’ve ever had. Guayaquil is one of the two main jumping-off points for the Galapagos Islands, the other being Quito. Guayaquil may be less well known, but as far as we are concerned, it is absolutely not to be missed. And Allyson is the guide you want to have. She has lived here her entire life, loves the city and its environs, and is incredibly well-connected. We spent an entire day roaming around, and we lost count of how many times people on the street greeted her or were greeted by her, waved to her, shouted out to her: she seems to know everybody in this city of 3 million! This personal connection played great dividends, because she was easily able to get us into any place she wanted to show us because, well, she knows everybody! Our day began with a tour of Guayaquil’s beautiful Municipal Cathedral. We were able to get a rare inside look of a gallery hidden in the walls that encircles the structure high up above the floor, on the back side of stained glass windows depicting over 100 saints. Afterwards we strolled through parks and other sites where Allyson pointed out statues of important figures and gave a us a great overview of Ecuador’s history. We ended up at the waterfront (on the Malecon) and had a look into the fascinating Museum of Archeology and Modern Art, before sitting down for a wonderful lunch at a fine restaurant right by the river. A stop for some of Ecuador’s excellent coffee followed. After strolling through some older neighborhoods we took a cable car ride across the water to have a look at the communities on the other side. We finished our day back at our hotel. Even though the tour was described as 6 hours, Allyson spent well over 7 hours with us. While she offered us rides from place to place, we are walkers and were happy to do all of our exploring on foot. Ecuador is reknowned for its Cacao farms and the chocolate that they produce, and Allyson mentioned that she was available the following day if we were interested in an excursion to one. We immediately agreed, and we were treated to a ride out of the city to Finca Cumanda, a small farm run by Roddy and Alexandra, a couple who are justly proud of what they have built. They showed us the entire chocolate making process (and they let us help!), from hacking open the cacao fruit, extracting and drying the beans, separating and roasting the nuts inside, and finally processing all the way to amazing bars with complex flavors—nothing like the Nestle’s back home! We always thought that Belgian chocolate was the best in the world. The fact is, the Belgians have come here to learn how it’s done! Afterwards Roddy and Alexandra treated us to a delicious traditional lunch, entirely from the farm’s produce. Then back to our hotel, after another amazing day with Allyson Aleman.

Best Ecuador family tour with a local

We had such a great experience with Allison from Local Friend Tours. She took care of everything and provided us with such care in the planning. The excursions were wonderful! We started with our grandson’s wedding- a love story in itself and then on to our tour of 5 days Guayaquil, Salinas, Banos and so much more!

Plan your tour with Allison and know you will be well taken care of and given the best tour from a local who now feels like family to us!

Thanks for a great experience in. Ecuador ❤️ 🦜

Allyson is an awesome tour guide as was the tour she created for us. Our tour was for 10 people who all flew into Guayaquil on different days and times. She was very accommodating and patient as we tried to determine the best tour and time. The chocolate tasting was very special and I highly recommend that as part of your tour if it is available. Allyson is very passionate and knowledgeable about all things Guayaquil and chocolate. I highly recommend her as a guide.

Allyson was an amazing guide. She was very knowledgeable and spoke English clearly. She tailored the tour to our activity level and the weather conditions, opting for a cable car ride in the heat of the day, and walking when it was cooler. She seemed to know everyone in town, and even made a phone call that allowed us to see an area of the church which had just closed. Our cruise ship was having an issue with the port and our arrival back to the ship was delayed by port authorities. She even made phone calls to help us with that!! She then followed up with us to make sure we made it onto the ship. She certainly went beyond any other tour guide we’ve ever had.

Of all the different Tours by Locals outings that we have been on, this day tour of Guayaquil is a favorite. Allyson Aleman gave us a wonderful introduction to the history, culture and charms of Guayaquil and Ecuador. She has an infectious enthusiasm for her native city which was inspiring for us. The tour included an in-depth visit of the Metropolitan Cathedral, a stroll through city parks and boulevards with stops at significant monuments and along the Malecon, an overview of the Museum of Art and Anthropology, stops at private art studios, sampling traditional food and drinks, a cable car ride over the city and river, and more. Allyson is knowledgeable, lively and engaging. She was generous with information and her time. We highly recommend this tour and feel it deserves six stars out of five!

Great overview of Guayaquil

Great tour of the city, very accommodating. Picked us up at our B&B on time and dropped us off right at the door.

We were somewhat hesitant about coming to Ecuador, especially Guayaquil, after the news stories in January. We decided to come and risk it, but I will just say that at No Time did we ever feel unsafe in the slightest. Security/police everywhere, and the people were so kind and welcoming. Tourism is really down because of it, and that’s just a shame.

As those reading this might know there were some safety concerns in Ecuador recently. I never felt unsafe, in fact just the opposite. No sign of any issues anywhere in the city.

We had Allyson as our guide while we were in Guayaquil. The people we met there, especially Allyson, were so nice. It was great to get an insider's look at the city. She got in contact with us well before hand to make sure our needs were met. I am a large person with mobility issues and I use an upright walker. My husband is tall. She made sure our transport was accommodating for our needs. She arranged our tours so we could see a lot without having to walk too much. We went on a river boat ride to see the city from the water. She brought us to an animal sanctuary so I could see a sloth. She got assistance at the Iguana park so we could be dropped off close to the gate so I didn't have to do additional walking. We were able to try Ecuadorian food and learned a lot of history about the city and even got ourselves a Panama hat. It was a wonderful time and Allyson went way out of her way to make it special.

Guayaquil city tour with a local - Private Tour

Very disappointing and misleading tour. Do not book it.

•We were disappointed that, at the last minute, you were not able to tour us and didn't let us know, though we do appreciate that you sent Eduardo in your stead, even with his late arrival.

•Upon introductions, I showed him our list of what we wanted to see [the Malekon, Las Penas, Contemporary Art Museum], emphasizing that we had particular interest in arts, crafts, and how 'real people' live. He said we would see all those things. Then he took us on a 30+ minute tour of a Panama Hat shop, ostensibly to show us how they were made but also, of course, he was encouraging us to buy. We did not.

•Then he took us to a GuayArte, which was interesting, and a park overlooking the city and explained a lot about nature. Not on our list nor particularly interesting. He treated us as students...Not very engaging. Just lecturing.

•Then we went to the Iguana Park...again, not on our list, though we were happy to see.

•Then, he tried to persuade us to tour the government buildings. We explained that we weren't interested but would be happy if the driver wanted to drive by them after the Iguana Park. So we did, but wouldn't get out of the car to tour, even though he kept asking if we wanted to.

•We went to the Museums and, in spite of his continuing push for us to see the Anthropological Museum, we did visit the Contemp. Art Museum and loved it.

•Finally, we drove along the Malekon, though he told us nothing about the area and I had to asked if that actually was where we were.

•I asked about Las Penas, and he said the driver already had driven all the hours he was committed to and needed to be somewhere else. The three of us then tried to figure out how to do what we had been looking forward to all day, and Eduardo came up with the idea that I could pay for the driver's extra time. Eduardo said I could pay him directly and he would pass it along to the driver.

•We went to Las Penas, with a cursory tour up 37 steps and along the new water-front development there. We found it fascinating, as we knew we would, and wish we could have spent an hour or two there, walking the steps and the streets. Alas, we were out of time.

•We were driven back to the hotel. We paid the driver directly and tipped him handsomely. I gave Eduardo a $50 tip... though I'm not sure why. Probably because I would have otherwise felt guilty.

Bottom line, Allyson: Our travel agent has booked us with a number of guides and we always have found them to be interesting and also interested in what we wanted to see. Many of those guides also were fun people, providing us with a great time. Eduardo is not that quality of a guide. He lectured, dismissed, and gave us a pre-programmed, sanitized "infomercial" on Guayquil. It was quite disappointing and I thought you should know.

Guayaquil 8 hour Layover! Private City Tour + typical food lunch

We were so grateful to tour with Allyson. This was our first visit to Guayaquil and Allyson immersed us in the political and architectural history of the city. We climbed to the top of the hill (444 steps) and were rewarded with a beautiful view of the city and the river. We also learned about the origin of the Paja Toquilla and toured the Music Museum. A stroll along the Malecon was followed by a refreshing drink of juice made from cacao (nothing like coffee).

Thank you, Allyson, for a great day!
